About

Leilani Hancock (b. 2003) is a Chicago-based multi-disciplinary artist, focusing on the sewn image. Born in Woodland, CA, she has a tensile relationship with home; having spent her formative years as an "international nomad". Following a recent return to the USA, her work examines postmodern American life through her own lens.

She earned her BFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2024) and was an artist-in-residence at the Yale Norfolk School of Art (2024). Leilani is an heiress to the remains of 20th-century California seeker-ism, and she seeks to explore her own relationship to gender and sexuality through persona-fueled self-portraiture and the replication and abstraction of existing cultural images.
